Overhead to Underground Conversions

If your supply comes in on an overhead span from the street or a private pole, converting it to underground gets rid of the storm risk, the tree-trimming, and the ugly wire across the yard in one go. The job involves a new underground consumer mains run from the point of supply to your switchboard (or a new pillar at the boundary), an Energex connection application, and usually a switchboard or meter box update at the same time. We handle the whole thing including the network paperwork. Common on older homes in Tewantin, Noosaville, Cooroy and across the hinterland.

Private Power Poles

A pole on your side of the boundary is your responsibility, not Energex's. We inspect private poles for rot, termite damage and failing crossarms, quote replacement, and coordinate the disconnection and same-day reconnection with the network. Where the pole is done and the run is short enough, going underground is often cheaper over the life of the property than putting in a new pole. Electrical Trenching

We do our own trenching rather than leaving you to organise a separate contractor. That means one quote, one crew, and the trench dug to the right depth on the right route the first time — with orange heavy-duty conduit and warning tape so anyone digging in future gets fair warning. Where a run crosses a driveway or paved area we bore or cut and reinstate.

Depth, Conduit and Standards

Underground cable runs require trenching to the correct depth — 500mm minimum (typically 600mm in practice) for mains cables under AS/NZS 3000. We arrange the right equipment for the job, whether that's a hire trencher for longer straight runs across lawns or hand digging where space is tight, near existing services, or around established gardens. Conduit goes in the trench, cable runs through the conduit, the trench is backfilled and compacted — lawn and garden left as close to original condition as possible. All underground runs use orange heavy-duty conduit with cable warning tape above for future excavation protection.

Hinterland Properties — Our Specialty

Acreage blocks, rural properties and older hinterland homes often need underground power runs that larger electrical contractors don't want to take on — too far from Brisbane, too much variation in terrain, too site-specific for a standard quote. Pricing

Underground power runs are quoted per job — the main variables are run length, ground conditions, whether a sub-board is needed at the destination, and the load requirements. As a rough guide, a straightforward 20–30m run to a shed with a small sub-board typically runs from $1,500–$2,500. Longer runs, harder ground or larger sub-boards are quoted individually. We'll come out, assess the site and give you a fixed-price quote — no surprises.
