Heat Pump Hot Water — Worth Considering

Heat pump hot water systems extract heat from the surrounding air rather than generating it electrically — making them roughly 3–4 times more efficient than a standard resistive element. Running on a controlled load tariff overnight (Tariff 33), the running cost of a heat pump system is a fraction of a conventional electric tank. The upfront cost is higher, but the payback period in Queensland's climate is typically 3–5 years, with significant savings every year after that.

Heat pumps work best with adequate airflow around the unit and ambient temperatures above about 5°C — which is rarely an issue in the Noosa Hinterland and Sunshine Coast. We advise on placement and installation requirements as part of the quote.

Off-Peak Tariffs — Tariff 33

Queensland's controlled load tariff (Tariff 33) allows your hot water system to run during off-peak periods — typically overnight — at a significantly reduced electricity rate. Setting this up requires registration with Energex and a dedicated controlled-load circuit at your switchboard. If your current system isn't on Tariff 33, we can arrange the setup — the ongoing savings are worthwhile.

Solar Integration

If you have solar panels, a smart hot water controller (like iBoost or similar) can divert excess solar generation to heat your water during the day — effectively giving you free hot water from your own generation. We install and configure these controllers as part of hot water system upgrades.

Coverage

We handle hot water electrical connections across Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin, Cooroy, Pomona, Eumundi, Yandina, Gympie and surrounding areas. Emergency connections for failed systems are prioritised where possible.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

We handle the electrical connection and circuit work. For systems that require plumbing, we coordinate with your plumber or can recommend one. Some heat pump replacements require no plumbing work at all.

Yes — we handle the Energex registration and switchboard circuit setup for Tariff 33 controlled load. The ongoing savings make it worthwhile for most electric storage systems.

In Queensland's climate, typically yes. A heat pump system is 3–4x more efficient than a standard element, and running on Tariff 33 the running costs are very low. Payback is typically 3–5 years.

Yes — common electrical faults include element failure, thermostat failure and wiring issues. We can diagnose and advise whether repair or replacement is the better option.
