EV Charger Installation — Sunshine Coast & Noosa Hinterland

Home Level 2 EV charger installation done properly — switchboard assessed, cable run cleanly, smart features configured, ready for every overnight charge.

Ultralec installs home EV chargers across the Sunshine Coast, Noosa Hinterland and Gympie region — including Pomona, Cooroy, Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin, Eumundi, Yandina, Coolum, Peregian, Buderim and Gympie. Whether you've just bought your first EV or you're upgrading from a trickle charger that takes 18 hours to top up, a proper Level 2 home charger transforms the EV ownership experience.

Why Home Charging Matters

Public charging is fine for road trips, but for daily driving, the answer is simple: plug in overnight, wake up full. A properly installed home EV charger does in 4–8 hours what a standard power point struggles to do overnight, saves you money compared to commercial fast-chargers, and means one less errand in your week.

Level 2 EV Charger Installation

Most home EV chargers are "Level 2" — 7kW single-phase (32A) or up to 22kW three-phase. We install the full range: Tesla Wall Connector, Zappi, Wallbox, Ocular, Delta, EVSE and others. Every install includes:

  • Switchboard assessment — can your current board safely supply a 32A continuous load?
  • Dedicated circuit — run on its own RCBO with proper short-circuit and earth-leakage protection
  • Neat cable run — internal where possible, external in proper conduit where it must go outside
  • Load management configuration where needed to prevent overloading your supply
  • Commissioning & handover — app setup, first charge test, explained in plain English

Smart Chargers & Solar Integration

A big advantage of home charging over public chargers is the ability to charge from your own solar. Smart chargers (like the Zappi or Tesla Wall Connector) can prioritise solar generation, top up from the grid only when needed, and charge during off-peak hours. If you've got solar — or you're installing solar along with the charger — we can configure the two to work together properly.

Switchboard Assessment — Non-Negotiable

An EV charger is one of the biggest continuous loads in a typical home — up to 7kW running for hours. Older switchboards, undersized mains, or partly loaded consumer mains simply can't carry that load safely. Before we install anything, we assess the switchboard, the mains cable, and your household peak demand. If an upgrade or load management is needed, we tell you up front — not after the sparks fly on the first charge.

EV Charger Cost Guide

A standard home EV charger installation typically runs from $800 to $1,500 for the electrical install (excluding the charger hardware itself), assuming a suitable switchboard and a reasonable cable run from the board to the charger location. More complex jobs — long cable runs, switchboard upgrades, three-phase install — are quoted individually (POA).

We'll give you an exact quote after assessing your home. Every quote is itemised: labour, materials, any switchboard work, any additional protection. No surprises.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Most single-phase installs are completed in 3–5 hours. Three-phase installs, or installs requiring a switchboard upgrade, can run to a full day.

No — a 7kW single-phase charger is plenty for overnight charging on most EVs. Three-phase (up to 22kW) is only needed if you do very high daily kilometres or have a larger battery pack to top up quickly.

Yes — we install all major brands including Tesla, Zappi, Wallbox, Ocular, Delta and EVSE. If you haven't bought a charger yet, we can recommend one for your EV and solar setup.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Older switchboards often need an upgrade before adding a large continuous load. We assess this as part of the quote so there are no surprises.
