Air Conditioning Installation & Servicing — Noosa, Sunshine Coast & Gympie

Split system supply, install and maintenance done properly — sized right, installed cleanly, servicing you can rely on.

Ultralec supplies, installs and services split system air conditioning across Cooroy, Pomona, Cooran, Noosa, Tewantin, Eumundi, Gympie and the wider Sunshine Coast. As a licensed electrical contractor and experienced air con installer, we handle the whole job — wall penetrations, indoor unit mounting, outdoor compressor location, electrical connection back to the switchboard, commissioning and testing — with one tradesperson, one warranty, one clean finish.

Queensland summers don't mess around. A well-sized, well-installed split system is the difference between a comfortable home and an expensive, underperforming box on the wall. We take the time to get both parts right.

Split System Supply & Installation

We supply and install quality-brand split systems — the ones that actually hold up in our climate — sized correctly for your room and your home's layout. Whether you need a single-head system for a bedroom or a multi-head setup covering living, bedrooms and office, we size it with proper heat-load calculation rather than guesswork.

Installation includes: neat indoor unit placement (no sagging condensate lines), outdoor compressor on a solid bracket or pad in shade where possible, pipework through the wall penetration professionally sealed, dedicated isolator switch within sight of the unit, and a proper commissioning test before we hand over.

Correct Sizing — The Bit Most Installers Skip

Undersized air con struggles on hot days and runs constantly — higher bills, shorter lifespan, more servicing. Oversized air con short-cycles, dehumidifies poorly, and costs more upfront and on power. We calculate actual heat load based on the room's size, insulation, orientation, windows and ceiling — then recommend a capacity that fits. It's a 15-minute conversation that saves you thousands over the life of the system.

Rough Sizing Guide (2.4m ceilings, typical insulation)

  • 2.5kW — small bedroom, up to about 15m²
  • 3.5kW — master bedroom or small living area, 15–25m²
  • 5.0kW — medium living area or large bedroom, 25–40m²
  • 7.0kW — large living area, 40–55m²
  • 8.5–9.0kW — open-plan living/dining/kitchen, 55–70m²

Queenslanders with 3m+ ceilings, west-facing glass, tin roofs with no sarking, or rooms open to a hallway all push the number up — which is why we do the sizing on site rather than off a floor plan. For the long version, read our guide: what size air conditioner do I need for a Queensland home?

Single-Head vs Multi-Head Split Systems

Single-head — one indoor unit, one outdoor unit, one room. Simple, cost-effective, easy to service, and right for most bedrooms, living rooms and home offices.

Multi-head — one outdoor compressor running two to five indoor heads. Fewer outdoor units cluttering the side of the house, which matters on tight blocks and on Noosa homes where the roofline and aesthetics count. They cost more up front, and if the outdoor unit fails every room goes down at once, so we'll talk you through whether it actually suits your home rather than defaulting to it.

What a Proper Installation Looks Like

  • Sizing assessment on site — room volume, insulation, orientation, glass
  • Indoor unit placed for airflow coverage, out of direct sun, and accessible for servicing
  • Pipework lagged, run straight, in proper capping or through the wall cavity where possible
  • Outdoor unit on a solid bracket or pad, adequate clearance, in shade where we can, away from bedroom windows
  • Dedicated circuit on its own breaker, sized for the unit, with an isolator within sight of the outdoor unit
  • Vacuum and pressure test before charging — never skipped
  • Commissioning test, app set-up if the unit has one, and a walk-through of the remote before we leave

Because Alex is a licensed electrician, the electrical side — the new circuit, the switchboard check, the isolator — is done by the same person on the same day. No second trade, no waiting.

Air Conditioning Servicing & Maintenance

Air con systems need regular servicing — especially in our climate where filters clog with pollen, dust and insect debris fast. A serviced system runs more efficiently, cools better, lasts longer and doesn't blow dust into your air. We offer scheduled servicing (annual or twice-yearly) covering:

  • Filter cleaning and inspection
  • Indoor and outdoor coil cleaning
  • Condensate drain flush and check
  • Refrigerant pressure check
  • Electrical connection and isolator inspection
  • Performance test — measuring actual cooling output

How Often Should You Service?

In Queensland's climate, once a year is the minimum for a residential split system. Holiday rentals, heavily used units and anything within a few kilometres of the coast should be done every six months. A serviced unit typically uses 15–25% less power and lasts years longer than a neglected one — the service pays for itself.

Signs Your Air Con Needs Attention

  • Not cooling like it used to
  • Water dripping or leaking from the indoor unit
  • Musty smell when it starts up
  • Rattling, squealing or grinding
  • Power bill up with no obvious reason
  • Running constantly without reaching the set temperature

Most of these are a blocked filter, a dirty coil or a choked drain — cheap fixes if you catch them. If it's not cooling at all, read our split system not cooling guide before you call.

Coil Cleaning — Bringing Old Systems Back to Life

If your older split system just "isn't cooling like it used to", a thorough coil clean often brings it back. Outdoor coils in particular get caked with fine dust and grass clippings over the years — restricting airflow, killing efficiency and eventually burning out the compressor. We do proper chemical coil cleans on both indoor and outdoor units.

Brands We Work With

We install quality brands suited to the Queensland climate — Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Panasonic, Fujitsu. We're brand-agnostic: we'll recommend what fits your budget and your needs, not what gives us the biggest margin.

Where We Install

Pomona and Cooroy are home turf — old Queenslanders on the flat, brick homes from the 70s–90s, new estate builds and acreage out toward Black Mountain, Ringtail Creek and Lake Macdonald. Every one cools differently and we know the housing stock well. We also cover Cooran, Kin Kin, Eumundi, Doonan, Tinbeerwah and Kenilworth.

Noosa — holiday rentals, apartments and waterfront homes from Noosa Heads to Peregian: air conditioning Noosa.

Gympie — hotter, no sea breeze, and a lot of unshaded brick: air conditioning Gympie.

It depends on room size, insulation, orientation and the number of windows. As a rough guide, 2.5kW cools a bedroom, 5kW a medium living area, 7–8kW a large open-plan space. We do a proper heat-load assessment as part of every quote.

Most single-head residential installs range from around $1,800 to $3,500 supplied and installed, depending on size, brand and installation complexity (back-to-back vs long pipe runs). We give fixed written quotes before we start.

Yes — ducted systems, cassette units and multi-head systems across the Noosa and Sunshine Coast region.

In most cases yes — a dedicated circuit sized for the unit is the correct installation. We include circuit work in our quotes, and check your switchboard capacity as part of every installation.
