Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program — What You Get

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program delivers an upfront discount on eligible battery installations — no applications, no paperwork, no waiting. As an SAA-accredited solar designer and installer (accreditation S7558874), we generate Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) on your behalf and apply the value as a discount directly on your invoice. For a typical 10–13 kWh battery, this represents several thousand dollars off the installed cost.

The rebate structure changed on 1 May 2026 — it now applies the full rate to the first 14 kWh of usable capacity, with reduced rates for larger systems. For most Noosa Hinterland households installing a standard residential battery, the rebate is still very worthwhile. Adding a Battery to an Existing Solar System

Most existing solar systems can have battery storage added, but the integration approach depends on your current inverter. Some inverters are battery-ready and accept DC-coupled storage directly. Others require an AC-coupled battery — which adds a separate battery inverter. And some older inverters are at end-of-life and are best replaced at the same time as the battery is added.

Our Warranty — and Why the Structure Matters

Ultralec provides a 10-year workmanship warranty on every solar and battery installation. That's double the five-year minimum set by the industry code, and it covers the part that's genuinely our responsibility: roof mounting and penetrations, DC and AC wiring, isolators, switchboard work, and the labour to come back and fix anything that arises from how the system was installed.

On top of that, you get the manufacturer warranties on the components themselves — typically 15 years product and 25 years performance on our panels, 10 years on Sungrow, GoodWe and Sigenergy inverters, and 10 years on battery systems. We register these for you at commissioning.

Most solar companies are retailers. They sell you the system, then dispatch a subcontracted crew to install it.
