Home Battery Rebate — Cheaper Home Batteries Program Noosa & Hinterland

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies an upfront discount to eligible battery installations — no paperwork, no waiting, just a lower price on your invoice. Ultralec is an accredited installer servicing Noosa, Cooroy, Pomona and Gympie.

If you've been thinking about adding battery storage to your home, now is still a good time to act — the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is delivering real upfront savings on eligible installations across Australia, including across the Noosa Hinterland and Sunshine Coast. As an accredited installer, Ultralec applies the rebate directly to your invoice — there's no application process for you, no waiting, and no government paperwork to navigate.

How the Cheaper Home Batteries Program Works

The federal program uses the same Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) mechanism that has reduced the cost of solar panels for over a decade. When we install an eligible battery system, we generate Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) based on the battery's usable capacity. Those certificates are assigned to us as part of the transaction, and we pass the value back to you as a direct discount on your invoice. You see a lower price — the mechanics happen behind the scenes.

There's no application for you to lodge with the government, no conditional approval to wait for, and no rebate cheque arriving weeks later. The discount is applied upfront at the point of sale.

Current Rebate Value

The rebate structure changed on 1 May 2026. The full rebate rate now applies to the first 14 kWh of usable battery capacity. Larger systems receive a reduced rate on capacity above that threshold. For most residential installations in the Noosa Hinterland — typically 10–13 kWh — the rebate is still substantial and remains one of the most cost-effective periods to install battery storage in Queensland's history.

The rebate steps down again on 1 July 2026, and every six months after that until the program ends in 2030. Call us for a current rebate figure — we quote it accurately based on your specific system size, and we'll show you exactly what your battery will cost before and after the discount is applied.

What Batteries Are Eligible?

To be eligible for the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, the battery system must:

  • Have between 5 kWh and 100 kWh of usable capacity (residential installs are typically 10–16 kWh)
  • Meet the program's approved product requirements
  • Be installed by a Clean Energy Council accredited installer
  • Be paired with a solar system (existing or new)

All major residential battery brands — Tesla Powerwall, Sungrow, BYD, SolarEdge, Enphase — have eligible models. We work with products that meet the program criteria and advise you on eligibility as part of the quote.

Do I Need Solar to Claim the Rebate?

Yes — the Cheaper Home Batteries Program requires the battery to be paired with a solar system. If you already have solar installed, you can add a battery and claim the rebate. If you don't have solar yet, a solar-plus-battery package installed together qualifies and typically delivers the best overall value. We design and install both.

Why the Noosa Hinterland Is a Strong Case for Battery Storage

The economics of battery storage are particularly compelling for Noosa Hinterland homeowners. The region has high air conditioning loads in summer, significant storm exposure (and the outages that come with it), excellent solar generation potential, and a high proportion of owner-occupiers who benefit from long-term bill savings. Adding a battery to an existing or new solar system typically reduces grid consumption to near zero on sunny days, provides backup power during outages, and accelerates payback on the solar investment.

The Process — Simple

  1. Call or enquire online — tell us you have solar (or want solar and battery together)
  2. We assess your home and system — roof, existing inverter, energy usage, battery options
  3. You receive a quote — showing the full cost and the rebate discount applied, so you can see exactly what you pay
  4. Installation — typically a single day for a battery addition to existing solar
  5. Grid paperwork — we handle any Energex metering changes required

Frequently Asked Questions

For a typical 10–13 kWh battery, the Cheaper Home Batteries rebate currently represents several thousand dollars off the installed price. The exact figure depends on battery capacity and current STC rates. We apply it directly to your invoice — call us for a current number.

No — as an accredited installer we handle the entire process. The rebate is applied as a direct discount on your invoice. You don't lodge any applications or wait for any government payment.

Yes — the Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies to batteries added to existing solar systems as well as new solar-plus-battery installations. Your existing solar system needs to be in working order.

The Queensland state Battery Booster Program closed in May 2024. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program replaced it and is the only battery rebate currently available to Queensland homeowners. Any websites still mentioning the Battery Booster are out of date.

Yes — the rebate steps down on 1 July 2026 and every six months after that until the program ends in 2030. It's not going away immediately, but installing sooner captures the higher current rebate value.

No — the program requires the battery to be paired with a solar system. If you don't have solar yet, a solar-and-battery package installed together is the most cost-effective way to access the rebate.
