LED Downlight Installation — Noosa, Hinterland & Sunshine Coast
Replace old halogens or install new LED downlights — dimmable, IC-F rated, properly wired. Servicing Noosa, Cooroy, Pomona and Gympie.
Downlights have changed dramatically. The old 50W halogens in many Noosa Hinterland homes run hot, burn out every 18 months, create fire risks near ceiling insulation, and cost a fortune to run. Modern LED downlights use 6–10W, last a decade or more, stay cool, and light rooms more evenly and attractively. Ultralec installs and replaces downlights across Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin, Sunshine Beach, Cooroy, Pomona, Eumundi and Gympie.

Insulation Safety — Critical in Hinterland Homes
Old halogen downlights are not rated for contact with ceiling insulation — which means either a dangerous fire risk (insulation laid over the hot fitting) or a large cold spot in your ceiling where insulation has to be pulled back. IC-F rated LED fittings can be safely covered by insulation, eliminating both the fire risk and the thermal bridging. If your home has blown-in insulation or batts, this is particularly important. We always install IC-F rated fittings as standard.
Getting Dimming Right
LED dimmers are not interchangeable with old halogen dimmers — using the wrong dimmer causes flickering, buzzing, and shortened LED life. We specify the correct dimmer for the LED fitting being installed, and test the full dimming range on completion. If you're replacing halogens with dimmable LEDs, we'll check your existing dimmers and replace any that aren't compatible.
Downlight Layout Design
A common mistake is placing downlights symmetrically on a grid without considering furniture layout — which means your sofa ends up directly under a bright light, and the dining table is in shadow. We plan layouts to suit how rooms are actually used, following the general rule of spacing downlights at roughly 1.2× the ceiling height apart and keeping them away from walls by at least 500mm.
Downlight Coverage
We install downlights across Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin, Sunshine Beach, Peregian Springs, Cooroy, Pomona, Eumundi, Yandina and Gympie — residential and light commercial. Halogen-to-LED whole-home conversions typically take a single day.
Frequently Asked Questions
A whole-home halogen-to-LED conversion typically costs $50–$80 per fitting including the LED globe and labour. Larger volumes are cheaper per fitting. We provide a written quote after assessing your home.
Replacing globes in existing fittings is DIY-legal for most types. However, replacing the fittings themselves — or any wiring work — requires a licensed electrician.
Warm white (2700K) suits living areas and bedrooms for a relaxed feel. Neutral white (4000K) works well in kitchens and bathrooms. Cool white (5000K) suits work areas. We're happy to discuss what suits each room.
Yes — dimmable LED downlights with compatible dimmers are a standard installation for us. We ensure the dimmer and fitting are matched to avoid flickering or buzzing.
